Rashad Chase opted to be the big fish in the smaller pond. On Wednesday night, Chase picked Georgia State as his college destination.

Georgia State landed a very significant commitment. Rashad Chase, a 6-foot-7 combo forward out of Atlanta (Ga.) Mays High School, is headed to play for the Georgia State Panthers.

Chase, a standout on the traveling team scene, could have played at a higher level. He’s a strong, rugged yet skilled forward. He’s got himself a perimeter game and isn’t without talent in the paint.

South Carolina, Tennessee, Miami, Georgetown and Missouri had showed interest in him and Florida State was also a player in his recruitment.

The Panthers worked their magic last week when they got him onto campus.

“I had talked to their coach and went down for an unofficial visit last Thursday,” Chase said. “We talked for a couple hours and I liked it there. The coaches were really up front and told me how they were going to play me and they offered an opportunity to play and make history and get an education at the same time.”

Last season, Mays averaged 15 points and 10 rebounds a game. You can expect him to come in and assist the Panthers both on and off the floor.

“I think I can make a real big impact because hopefully my commitment will help bring in other players and make others players commit to Georgia State.”
