Mick Cronin and his staff have the remainder of the year to focus on recruiting big men because this week, the Racers landed the guard they wanted. Tyler Holloway, a 6-foot-guard who shot 42% from behind the arc as a junior at Decatur (Ala.) Austin, committed to the Racers on Thursday.
“Every single coach, from Coach Cronin to the assistants were great,” Holloway said. “I liked everything they did. Everyone was so welcoming. They all accepted me when I was there on my visit. It was the best fit for me of all the schools.”
Holloway, a legit mid-major target, visited Winthrop and Wofford before deciding on Murray State. Holloway ran with the Alabama Lasers on the AAU circuit where his proficiency from the perimeter often drew attention from recruiters.
As a junior, he averaged 16 points, 5 assists and made 89% of his free throws.
Holloway is ready to help the Racers take the next step and win a game in the NCAA’s.
“Their tradition of winning was important. They’re always winning the OVC and getting into the NCAA Tournament. I think they’ll eventually advance.”
