Leon Powe Will Be There
Leon Powe Will Be There

There can’t be too many better spots than Fort Myers, Fla., the week before the Christmas holiday. Once again, tournament director Donnie Wilkie has assembled a stellar field for his event. TheInsidersHoops.com will be on hand for the action.

City of Palms Classic Has It All

It’s just not Christmas unless it’s 81 degrees and Donnie Wilkie is packing them in at Bishop Verot High School in Fort Myers, Fla. Wilkie selected 16 quality teams for his event and the action should be terrific.

Arguably the nation’s top team, Los Angeles Westchester, is back for the second year in a row. Hassan Adams, Brandon Bowman, Ashanti Cook, Brandon Heath and Trevor Ariza need to win this event to set up a showdown with Oak Hill later in the month.

With most of the seniors having signed letters of intent in the fall, we’ll be especially interested in the play of the underclassmen and Wilkie has imported a few good ones to challenge Top 10 senior Shavlik Randolph of Broughton.

Among the stud juniors in attendance are Leon Powe, Chris Taft and Warren Scott. They’ll get to match their talent against veterans like Rashad Anderson, John Gilchrist and Torin Francis. Obviously, there’s some talent in this field.

Reports should start flowing from Fort Myers very early Wednesday morning as we hope to have player reports, game summaries and exclusive shot charts.

The following is a list of participating teams:

· Abramson of New Orleans, La.

· All Hallows of Bronx, N.Y.

· Bishop Verot

· Broughton of Raleigh, N.C.

· Calhoun County of Saint Matthews, S.C.

· Cypress Lake of Fort Myers, Fla.

· Hightower of Missouri City, Tex.

· Kathleen of Lakeland, Fla.

· Lakewood of St. Petersburg, Fla.

· Lehigh Senior of Lehigh Acres, Fla.

· Miami Christian · Oakland Tech of Oakland, Calif.

· Salem High of Virginia Beach

· Tabor Academy of Marion, Mass.

· Westchester of Los Angeles, Calif.

· Xaverian of Brooklyn, N.Y.
