LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. – Memphis YOMCA, bidding for its second consecutive national championship, was stopped in the title game Saturday afternoon at the AAU Nationals. Memphis born guard Louis Williams pumped in 38 points for the Georgia Stars to capture the championship.

Since the start of the 17 and under AAU Nationals, no one had been able to stop super scorer Louis Williams. In Saturday’s championship game, that trend continued as Williams, the quickest draw and hottest hand in the tournament helped the Georgia Stars gun down powerful Memphis YOMCA 83-80 in the championship game.

Williams, the likely No. 1 player in America, was born in Memphis but showed no mercy on his home city as he pumped in a game-high 38 points on 12-for-21 shooting and 5 assists.

Memphis YOMCA was led by Shawne Williams, the 2003 AAU MVP. Williams, a 5th year prepster who is headed to Laurinburg Prep, scored 27 points and looked like the Shawne Williams of old in doing it.

The Georgia Stars captured the championship of the prestigious Kingwood Classic back in April and are no strangers to winning the AAU title. In 1995, with William Avery at the controls of the team, they won the national title.

Williams showed no signs of fatigue and some in the crowd even wondered if they’d seen him sweat at all during the week in Orlando. The reality was that Williams was the best player here, had the best week and is poised to assume the mantle as the top player in the class. At the Nationals, Williams put on a show and made it his business that the Georgia Stars not lose.

In the 3rd place game, Boo Williams defeated Mean Streets to take home the bronze and standout guard Bobby Frasor of the Illinois Wolves closed out his AAU career with a sweet-shooting 28-point game.
