High Point University pulled a sizable recruiting coup this week as the Panthers landed 6-foot-8 forward Monquel Pegues out of Wilson Fike High.
Pegues, who is in summer school for another week before he hits the circuit with the North Carolina Gaters, committed to High Point over the weekend after considering interest from VCU, Western Kentucky, Marshall, Old Dominion, Penn State, Appalachian State and a host of others.
“I think I should have a great impact on them,” Pegues said. “They said that I’ll be playing the four spot. I’ll be able to help them a lot inside and outside.”
High Point also landed Melvin Crowder, a 6-foot-4 wing out of Charlotte who will prep this season at Prince Avenel Prep.
Back to Pegues. He’s got a chance to make a real impact for the Panthers. This is a guy with size whom we rated as the highest level mid-major player.
