Norm Roberts was hired as the head coach at St. John’s on Tuesday. Just three days later, the former associate head coach at Kansas scored a big win on the recruiting trail.
Cedric Jackson, a 6-1 combo guard out of Northern Burlington Regional in New Jersey, committed to Roberts Friday night.
Jackson was being recruited by LaSalle, West Virginia and East Carolina. He was excited to become Roberts’ first recruit.
“That’s pretty big,” Jackson said. “I feel honored.”
Jackson said that the new first contacted him 2-3 days ago, shortly after getting the job. “I talked to coach and liked the things he had to say. I had that gut feeling.
“[Coach Roberts is] down to earth; he’s a cool guy like my high school coach. I think he can relate to me as a big brother.”
Jackson is expected to play both the shooting guard and point guard role for the Red Storm.
