Chapel Hill (TN) Forest High is about to send its first Division I prospect to school next fall. Jamar Jenkins, a 6-6, 210 pound forward, committed to Western Carolina this week.
“We’re extremely excited here,” Forest coach Davey McClaren said. “This is the first male D-I player that we’ve had at our school in basketball. The community is excited.”
Jenkins, a four-year starter, is closing in on the 1,500 career point mark. “He’s played every single position for me but mainly he’s played the 3-4 position. He’s extremely athletic.”
So far, Jenkins is averaging 17 points, 11 rebounds and 6 assists for a team that is 18-3.
“I think they’re talking about starting him at a four and gradually moving him to a 3 by his junior year so that he gets used to the speed of the game.”
Meanwhile, over in Laramie, Wyoming added a talented, multi-positional player. Steven Neal, a 6-4 ½ swingman out of Minneapolis Patrick Henry, committed to the Cowboys, according to sources close to the team.
Just this week, Neal went wild in an 80-40 win over Southwest. He scored 37 points, had 11 rebounds and 10 assists. At Wyoming, he’ll play a few positions on the floor and his athleticism will be welcomed.
