Tragedy struck Our Savior New American after an accident involving its van killed one person and injured eight others.

Our Savior New American junior Kevin Mormin was killed and at least eight other people were injured on Wednesday afternoon when the team's bus lost control, overturned and hit a tree on its way to Charlotte.

Our Savior was on its way to play in the Dell Curry Shootout, which began today.

According to the Charlotte Observer, 22-year-old Emily Elizabeth Stelzer, the daughter of head coach/pastor Ron Stelzer, was driving the 15-passenger van that crashed.

Three passengers were flown to the Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center and two were in surgery late Wednesday at Rowan Regional Medical Center in Salisbury, according to the Observer. Three others, including the driver, were treated and released.

The 7-foot-2 Mormin was an exchange student from France.

Our Savior will meet with grief counselors today and will then decide whether to play its scheduled game on Friday.
