New Orleans Picks Up Guard

New Orleans head coach Monty Towe is a former N.C. State point guard. It’s only natural that the coach uses his North Carolina ties to his advantage.

Kris Clark, a 6-2 guard out of Laurinburg (NC) Prep, recently committed to New Orleans to play for coach Monty Towe.

“I like the guard system that coach Towe runs,” Clark said. “It’s freelance guards. I was watching practice and I like how he runs the break. On the secondary break he’s got an option for all the guards to get open shots.”

Clark is a native of the beach area on the coast in Carolina. He played last season at New Hanover and in the summer with Raleigh’s Finest which helped him gain notice.

Last season he averaged 13 points and 7 assists. Coastal Carolina offered him and Loyola-Chicago was showing interest.

Towe’s ties with the state of North Carolina didn’t hurt the Privateers’ chances. “That helped a lot. I think that when they started recruiting me, Coach Harrington gave me his name and told me to look him up on the internet. He sort of invented the alley-oop and that got me interested. I know that he likes good guards.”
