The recruitment of Greg Paulus has had its share of drama, especially considering he’s just a junior. On Tuesday, Paulus stepped up and announced that he’s going to attend Duke University.
The point guard averaged 24.5 points and 6.5 assists last season. On the gridiron, where he’s poised to shatter some New York State records, he’s already thrown for over 5,000 yards and 76 TDs and he’s yet to play a down in his junior season. Paulus’ first game is Friday.
Last year, he led his CBA basketball team to the state semifinals and was the Central New York Player of the Year.
On the hardwood, we liken Paulus to former Maryland point man Steve Blake. He possesses all kinds of intangibles and his football experience helps him to be a better basketball player. He’s tough minded, very coachable, intense and not afraid to get in the face of a teammate and let him know the deal. Like Blake, Paulus sees the floor extremely and has always been a reliable assist man. He’ll be among the top three point guards in the early junior class rankings.
Paulus’ recruitment has taken on a life of its own. With Duke, Notre Dame, North Carolina, Syracuse and Xavier involved, he’s been in the national spotlight for two straight years after hosting his coming out party at the 2002 Nike Hoop Jamboree.
