Williams opts to stay home
The draw of staying close to home was too much to pass up for Kenny Williams. Williams, a 6-foot-3 guard from Chesterfield (Va.) L.C. Bird, committed to Shaka Smart and VCU on Tuesday afternoon. Williams informed Scout.com of his decision. "It's a perfect fit for me," Williams told Scout.com about his decision to commit to VCU. "The fact that my family would be down the street was the deciding factor," Williams added. VCU was among the first schools to recruit Williams. He also strongly considered North Carolina, Michigan, Indiana and Georgetown. "They were one of the first and like I said location really helped me finalize it," Williams said about VCU. As a junior, Williams averaged 21.3 points and 5.7 rebounds a game. Playing for Boo Williams in the EYBL, Williams averaged 13 points and 3.1 rebounds a game, while shooting 43.7% from behind the three-point stripe. VCU assistant coach Mike Morrell was the point man on the Williams recruitment. Williams, a four-star prospect, is VCU’s first verbal pledge of the 2015 recruiting class.
