Boatwright commits to USC

USC picked up their second four-star commitment of the 2015 class on Thursday. Bennie Boatwright opted for the Trojans on Thursday.

Bennie Boatwright wants to play his college basketball close to home.

So on Thursday, Boatwright, a 6-foot-8 forward, committed to USC and Andy Enfield. Boatwright's father -- Bennie Boatwright Sr. -- informed Scout.com of the news.

"It was a tough decision," Boatwright told Scout.com. "You can't lose going to any of these schools. The thing that separated them was he wanted to be close to home and SC was the choice. My son thinks he fits well in their style of ball."

USC assistant coach Jason Hart has had a long standing relationship with Boatwright and was the point man on the recruitment.

"We've been knowing Jason since he was at Taft high school," Boatwright Sr. said. "Then he went to Pepperdine. He's been the leader of Bennie's recruitment. He's come to a lot of games. He brought coach Enfield to a lot of games and that was important to him."

“Enfield came to a lot of games,” Boatwright Sr. said. “That was important. Their style of play fits Bennie. They are going to utilize him on the perimeter and as a mismatch.”

Boatwright, a standout at Sun Valley (Calif.) Village Christian, also strongly considered Gonzaga, Connecticut, Washington, Washington State, UCLA California and a host of other schools.

“He's not a person that wants to go out of state,” Boatwright Sr. said. “I think it's a great fit for him.”

USC now has a pair of top 100 commitments in their 2015 class. Boatwright joins Chimezie Metu, who ranks No. 41 overall, to make up their current two-man recruiting class.

Boatwright, a four-star prospect, is ranked No. 54 overall on Scout.com.
