Elijah Thomas, a five-star recruit out of Texas, is down to six schools. He's set up two official visits and plans to set up three more.
informed Scout.com that he’s down to six schools – Texas A&M
, Oklahoma State
“I just felt like they presented the best situation for me to accomplish my goals and win,” Thomas told Scout.com.
Thomas discussed what sticks out about each of the six remaining schools:
“It’s close to home. They were the first school to offer me a scholarship. They just worked very hard at recruiting me the whole time. They’ve presented a great opportunity for me to play right away.”
“Jordan [Mickey] goes there. He’s almost like family to me. I know a lot of the players that go there. I talked to Shaq [O’Neal] when I was a Reebok Breakout Classic and he told me a lot of about LSU that I didn’t know. Coach Johnny Jones and coach [David] Patrick have done a great job recruiting me and so has Ben Simmons
“That’s probably the school that has recruited me he heaviest. Coach [John] Groce and coach Jamall [Walker] and their whole staff never miss my games. That shows the difference between them and other schools. They don’t express the want, they express the need. Their fan base is crazy and they present the opportunity for me to play right away, both Me and Jawun [Evans].”
“SMU is twenty minutes away from the house. That would be a bonus. Larry Brown is a very good coach. He’s straight-forward with you. He has a really good opportunity to make my dreams come true and win.”
“This was the second school to offer me a scholarship. Coach [Butch] Pierre and coach [Travis] Ford have been to my school as many times as they could. They’ve been to all my games and I know a lot of the players there. The fan base and people there are really cool. I like their academics, outside of basketball, which means a lot. Also there’s an opportunity for me and Jawun to play together.
“It’s a pretty cool city. Their fans came to my last AAU games I played in. The market there is pretty good. It’s strictly a business oriented school for basketball players. You have to be mature to go there. They present a very big opportunity for me as a freshman to play right away. Their coaching staff is legit.”
Thomas told Scout.com that he intends to use all five of his allowed official visits. He currently has dates set up for Oklahoma State (Sept. 13) and Illinois (Sept. 20).
“I’ll be setting up three more visits and then deciding around November,” Thomas said. “I’m not sure of the exact day or week.”
Thomas, a standout at Lancaster (Tex.) High, is a five-star recruit and currently ranked No. 13 overall in the 2015 class.
