Numerous offers for Cowan

Four-star Anthony Cowan showed that is one of the top pure point guards in the 2016 class at the adidas Unrivaled Camp.

True point guards are among the hardest thing for coaches to find at the high school level. One of the best who fits that description in the class of 2016 is Anthony Cowan. At the adidas Unrivaled Camp Cowan showed his ability, and numerous college coaches were there to track him.

“I think I played pretty well,” said Cowan. “The camp showed me things I needed to work on, but overall it was a great experience and I learned a lot.”

He continued, “I am just trying to show everybody that I am a true point guard who can pass and then also can score when asked to. I just want to show that I can do a little bit of everything.”

Recruiting wise Cowan has numerous scholarship offers.

“I have offers from Miami, Maryland, Xavier, West Virginia, DePaul, Penn State, Florida State, and Rhode Island,” said Cowan.

One of his first offers came from Maryland, and Cowan says it is big to hear from his in-state school.

“I don’t know if they are showing loyalty, but it is great to have them recruiting me,” said Cowan. “They are my hometown school, and it is great to have them want me to stay home and help them win.”

Another school that offered early was Xavier, and Cowan has built a strong relationship with the coaching staff there.

“Coach Mike (Pegues), that is my man,” Cowan explained. “We talk two or three times per week. He is always telling me how I would fit in there and I just have a great relationship with him.”

Miami is expected to get an unofficial visit from Cowan soon, and he really likes what the school has to offer.

“I love Miami,” said Cowan. “The first time me and Coach (Jim) Larranaga talked on the phone we had a good connection. I am really impressed with them and I am looking forward to seeing the school when I go down there.”

Miami isn’t the only school Cowan intends to visit, as he said he is also hoping to make unofficial visits to Florida State and Penn State before the end of the summer.

For now there is no timeframe for a decision for Cowan, but he does know what he will be looking for in a school.

“I am looking for a school where I have a great relationship with the coach and a team that is dedicated to winning,” said Cowan.

Currently Cowan is the No. 11 point guard in the 2016 class and the No. 60 player overall.
