NBPA: Ahmad gives timetable
In his first game at the NBA Players Association Top 100 Camp, Esa Ahmad was very impressive. The 6-foot-7 forward from Shaker Heights (Ohio) showed off his significant skillset, and it is no surprise given his impressive spring and summer. "I am honored to be here to be competing against the best players in the country," said Ahmad of the camp. "Overall all spring I feel like I played great. My teammates and I played very well, and I just tried to step up." The tremendous spring led to offers from schools such as Ohio State, Maryland, West Virginia, Xavier, Indiana, Wisconsin, Michigan State, and others. Already Ahmad has taken several unofficial visits, and he says a few more are set to take place in the next month or so. "Over the next month I am supposed to visit Michigan and Michigan State, and then I also hope to visit Wisconsin," said Ahmad. Since Ahmad hasn't yet been to Michigan for a visit he doesn't have an offer, but that could change when he sees the campus. "I am not sure exactly what the coaching staff has been saying to my dad, but I know they want to get me on campus and get a feel or everything," said Ahmad of a potential offer from the Wolverines. When it comes to Michigan State, Ahmad stated, "I like Tom Izzo as a coach. They run a good system and I like them a lot, so I am excited to visit." Ahmad grew up following Ohio State and was offered on an unofficial visit during the spring, and he says the Buckeyes are currently high up on his list. "They are a top school for me on my list, but I just want to wait and see," noted Ahmad. "I like them a lot though, and they are a good school." Ahmad did indicate that a final school choice will come during the month of August. He wants to take his time, but at the same time not drag out the process, so a commitment should come following his July time with All-Ohio Red. In terms of what he will be looking for in a school, Ahmad said, "I am just looking for the school that fits me the best, the playing time I would get, and my relationship with the coaches." Currently Ahmad is listed as the No. 11 power forward in the class and the No. 64 prospect overall.
