Garrett pledges to Alabama
Jeff Garrett, a senior forward from Oldsmar (Fla.) Christian, committed to Alabama during an official visit to their campus on Sunday. The news was confirmed by his high school coach -- Jordan Fair. "I think it was kind of always a school that growing up he always wanted to go," Fair told Scout.com. "It puts him closer to home. I think the style fits him. I think the coaching staff made him comfortable." Among the schools that were involved were Virginia Tech, Murray State, Oregon State and South Alabama. According to Fair, Alabama picked up their interest in Garrett in early March. "Jeff had a really good year at Oldsmar," Fair said. "He opened a lot of peoples eyes. I think his year down at Oldsmar helped him at." "I think they saw him a couple of times [during the season] and then they came and saw Jeff in our state tourney and Jeff played really well in our state tournament," he added. What is Alabama getting in Garret? "He's a high level athlete," Fair told Scout.com in the past. "Big time athlete. He has really good length. He has good size at 6-7. On my team he plays the one, two, three and four. He handles it really well for a guy his size and passes it well. He needs to continue to work on his jumper." Alabama now has four commitments in the 2014 class. Garrett joins top 100 players Justin Coleman and Devin Mitchell, as well as three-star prospect Riley Norris. Garrett, who is originally from Gadsen City (Ala.), is regarded as a three-star prospect.
