Cekovsky pledges to Maryland

Michal Cekovsky

Maryland added their fifth pledge to their 2014 class. This time they went overseas to add their class.

Michal Cekovsky, a 7-footer out of Canarias Basketball Academy, is off the board.

According to a source, Cekovsky committed to Maryland on Monday. He entertained interest from a host of schools during the recruiting process, including Louisville, Arizona and many others.

On the court, Cekovsky, a native of Slovokia, is a talent. At his size, he has good hands and touch and is capable of making hook shots on the block and mid-range jumpers when he faces the rim.

In the fall Canaria Basketball Academy coach Rob Orellana said he has tremendous potential.

"He's 7-foot, 220-pounds and he can put it on the floor,' Orellana said. "It doesn't take a rocket scientist to see he can put it on the floor, he can shoot it or he can post you up. He's 30 pounds away from being a hell of player and playing [against this competition] every day."

"He's long," he added. "He's bouncy. He can put it on the floor and he can shoot it. He's a good player."

Cekovsky is Maryland's fifth pledge of the 2014 class. In addition to Cekovsky, the Terrapins also hold commitments from four top 100 prospects -- Trayvon Reed, Jared Nickens, Dion Wiley and Romelo Trimble.

Maryland assistant Dustin Clark was the point on the Cekovsky recruitment.
