Zimmerman not close to cutting list

Stephen Zimmerman

Stephen Zimmerman, one of the top prospects in the 2015 class, isn't ready to cut his list of college choices.

Word circulated that Stephen Zimmerman, a standout at Las Vegas (Nev.) Bishop Gorman, was closing to cutting his list of college choices. Zimmerman's mother – Lori – said that's far from the truth.

"Stephen hasn't created a "list" per se," she explained. "He has a list of offers. From that, he knows he'll eventually create a list of whom he's still considering, be it six, eight or 10 he doesn't know. The timeline could be before, during or after summer. Again he's in no rush."

Zimmerman currently has scholarship offers from 23 schools. He'll begin sifting through that list and setting up visits once his junior season comes to an end.

"There have been schools that have been quite consistent in their recruitment from day one," his mother explained. "There is others he has been surprised have dropped off."

"There have even been some that have told us they've been told there is a top three so they've cut back but when asked they didn't hear it from him, his dad or myself, which would be the only three who would really know."

Are there any favorites at this point?

"He honestly doesn't have favorites, he wants to ramp up visits big time after his season ends so he has a good basis to make a list from," Lori explained.

"Right now his No. 1 goal is to keep developing and getting stronger to win that 3rd straight state championship. He had the ankle sprains and that set him back so now all he's focused on is helping his team get that 3rd ring."

According to Zimmerman, he hasn't set up any visit dates.

"Nothing is set in stone but come the day after our season ends, whenever that may be hopefully we're blessed enough that it's after they win state, we will make a plan. The ones we've been on so far have been purely because they have been convenient to where we've been at that time."

Zimmerman is regarded as the No. 3 prospect in the 2015 class.
