Sampson adding offers

Brandon Sampson

Some of the best in college basketball are coming in to track four-star wing Brandon Sampson.

Four-star wing Brandon Sampson is one of the better scorers in the 2015 class. The Baton Rogue (La) Madison Prep standout had an excellent spring and summer, and now his recruitment is really beginning to explode.

According to Madison Prep coach Jeff Jones, Sampson is now ready to take the next step as a player following the graduation of former five-star power forward Jarell Martin.

"We expect a big year out of him," said Jones of Sampson. "He has worked hard and got to watch a guy like Jarell set a good example last year. Brandon had some big moments in some big games last year, and he had a great spring and a great summer. We don't have a lot of veterans on this team, so we are expecting him to step up and be a leader in his first year being the go to guy on the team."

Recruiting wise a lot of schools are coming in to see Sampson and he has been setting up visits as well.

"He made an unofficial visit to Texas A&M for the Alabama game and we're going to be visiting Oklahoma State soon," said Jones. "He is being recruited hard by St. John's, Texas A&M, Oklahoma State, Arizona, LSU, South Carolina, Georgetown, USC, and Mississippi State. So his recruitment is taking off pretty fast."

The visit to Texas A&M was a good one where Sampson got to see the atmosphere of an electric football game and also meet the basketball staff.

"It definitely made A&M a viable option," explained Jones. "It is a real nice campus with great facilities and great fans. It was an Alabama football game so it was an electric environment. It was a good environment and a good chance to meet the coaches and see what they have to offer. It was real nice."

This week Arizona Head Coach Sean Miller offered Sampson a scholarship, and the Wildcats have stayed in close contact since the spring.

"The coaches call when then they can," said Jones of the Wildcats. "Arizona has been in to watch him workout and they have been in contact with him for about two years. By getting Craig Victor I think they are feeling confident that they can come to Louisiana and get players. Brandon knows about Arizona, it is a tradition rich program and he was excited by the offer. He is a very intelligent young man and he is looking for the best situation for himself, and Arizona the way they play definitely intrigues him."

With a former teammate on their roster already, and being close to home, LSU has a lot of built in advantages with Sampson. However Jones says it is no sure thing that he ends up a Tiger.

"He's not really a kid that is impacted by being close to home," Jones noted. "Brandon is a kid who wants to go to the best situation for him, and if being close to home is best for him then that is great. With Jarell it was kind of a foregone conclusion that he wanted to stay pretty close, Brandon on the other hand is a little more wide open." Jones continued, "LSU has spent a lot of time recruiting Jarell and Brandon. They have built a relationship, and they are in pretty good shape with him."

For now Sampson will continue to work to improve and is in no hurry to make his college choice.
