A busy and interesting 48 hours concluded on Thursday afternoon when five-star shooting guard Isaiah Whitehead selected Seton Hall at a press conference at his school. The nation’s No. 1 shooting guard was the subject of an intense recruiting battle, but decided on the Big East school.
"I would like to announce I'll be taking my talents to Seton Hall University," Whitehead said at his press conference.
The rumors had been flying all day and they proved to be correct. For Seton Hall the commitment from Whitehead is huge. This is their highest rated recruit in over a decade, and someone who they hope can help them get to the top of the Big East under Kevin Willard.
To land Whitehead the Pirates had to get the best of St. John’s, Syracuse, Indiana, Minnesota, and a host of others who pursued the five-star scorer at different points in time during his high school career.
"I picked Seton Hall to help bring that program back to where it used to be," he added.
Word is that joining Whitehead will be his high school coach at Brooklyn (NY) Lincoln Dwayne “Tiny” Morton, who many expect to join the Pirates staff.
None the less for the Pirates this is huge. Whitehead now gives them a fourth verbal commitment in the class. He joins four-star power forward Angel Delgado, three-star shooting guard Khadeen Carrington, and also two star forward Ismael Sanogo.
This class if it sticks together will easily be one of the best in the Big East, and a top 25 class in the entire country, and would mark a huge win for Willard and his staff as they try to rebuild the Seton Hall brand.
