Marquette gets on board in 2017

Marquette is on the board early in the class of 2017. They accepted a verbal pledge from a legacy recruit over the weekend.

Marquette is off to an early start in the 2017 class.

Over the weekend Buzz Williams and his staff accepted a verbal pledge from Phillip Flory, a 6-foot-3 guard out of Wisconsin Rapids (Wisc.) Lincoln.

Flory has strong ties to the Marquette program. His father -- Mike -- played for Marquette in the late 1980's. The elder Flory told Journal Sentinel reporter Michael Hunt that the decision seemed right.

"It just felt right," Flory told the paper. "We spent the last few days on campus and it just felt good. It's a great high-level program and a great high-level coach. And for us, it's nice and close to home.

"Now it's over and Phillip can concentrate on being the best player he can be for Wisconsin Rapids in the next four years."

Flory is Marquette's first pledge of the 2017 class. Recommended Stories
