North Royalton (OH) native Omari Spellman is becoming one of the better post prospects in the class of 2016. The 6-foot-8 and 215 pounder competed well all summer long and then finished it off with a strong showing at the Hoop Group Future All-American Camp.
“I think I played okay,” said Spellman of his summer. “I definitely think I could have played better. I know I just have to keep working and improving.”
Over the summer Spellman made great strides with his game and says he is still working to improve.
“I definitely try to work on my weaknesses,” said Spellman. “I have worked on my jump shot and my handle for sure. Now the focus is on getting in shape and being ready to play at the next level.”
Recruiting wise Spellman recently picked up an offer with a few visits being set up.
“I got an offer from Cincinnati the other day,” said Spellman. “I am also taking visits to UCLA and UNLV in the next coming week. I have yet to schedule a visit to VCU, but I want to do that as well.”
The offer from the Bearcats was huge for Spellman who continues to see his recruitment pick up.
“Before I had a bunch of low-major offers, but it is a high-major and it felt really good to get that offer,” Spellman explained. “It showed me my hard work is starting to pay off.”
The visits to UCLA and UNLV will come while he is on a vacation with his mother to the West Coast, and Spellman is looking forward to them.
“I am going out to the West Coast for a vacation, and those schools want me to visit when I am out there, so me and my mom will,” said Spellman.
He continued, “It is just incredible to hear from a school like UCLA. When you are a little kid you dream of hearing from schools like that, so it is just great to know they are interested.”
For now Spellman is just trying to get better and isn’t too focused on recruiting. However he does want to get a feel for all of his options.
