Travis Could Play Football, Too

Minneapolis (Minn.) De La Salle power forward Reid Travis is being recruited primarily as a basketball player, but has thought about playing football in college...

It's not easy to miss Reid Travis on the basketball court. Though probably about 6'6, the power forward, true to the name of his position, often looks like the most powerful player on the court, with big arms and a wide body that would look equally comfortable going up strong to draw a foul as it would breaking tackles on the football field.

Naturally, Travis, who's made a name for himself as a basketball prospect over the last two years, drawing wide attention from elite high majors across the country, is also a legitimate football prospect, earning offers from Boston College and Iowa as a quarterback.

As of now, none of his top schools have shown interest in Travis as both a basketball and football player, but that won't stop him from trying to play both.

"I haven't been recruited as much as I would have wanted (in football), but it's something I'm interested in playing in college," Travis said. "It'd have to be at quarterback, since it'll be hard enough doing it while not having to learn a new position. I know it'd be hard anyway, but I at least want to look into it."

As of now, the list of schools where the four-star might look into it range widely across the country, and over the next week or two he's going to try to narrow down which schools will get official visits.

As of now, he knows pretty well that one will.

"I want to visit UCLA officially," Travis said. "But I also want to check out Minnesota, Michigan State, Stanford, Georgetown and Notre Dame. I have to figure out which ones will work for official visits."

He tentatively has an official visit to UCLA scheduled for August 31st, but nothing else mapped out.

With that list of schools, academics are clearly a big priority for Travis.

"That is honestly probably the most important factor for me," Travis said. "I want a school where I can get a great education that also has great basketball."

Not wanting to drag the process out any further than necessary, Travis plans to take all of his official visits and make a determination by the time his high school season begins.
