Every year at the Nike Elite 100 numerous prospects emerge on the national radar. One who did this year was point guard Howard Washington. The Buffalo (NY) Canisius standout showed that he is one of the top pass first guys in the class, and that he will definitely be on high-major radars for a long time to come.
At Elite 100 Washington got to measure himself against some of the best players in his class, and it is a challenge that he welcomed.
“It was a good experience,” said Washington. “It had all of the best competition from around the nation so it let you know where you were at.”
At 6-foot-2 and 150 pounds, Washington needs to add strength, but he has good size and excellent floor vision. Overall Washington sees himself as a facilitator going forward.
“I’m a pure pass first point guard who likes to get his teammates open shots and help them get better,” said Washington of his game.
Already Washington has one high-major offer with other schools beginning to show him interest.
“I have an offer from Virginia Tech,” said Washington. “Also schools like Butler, Virginia, Buffalo, Canisius, Charlotte, and some others have been in contact.”
According to Washington getting this early recruiting interest is something he never really saw coming.
“I never expected it,” said Washington. “I played well at Boo Williams and from there everything blew up. I have just been waiting my whole life for this opportunity.”
It is obviously still very early with Washington, but he and his family know how important it is to take a close look at all options, and he says they already know the factors to consider when it comes to each school.
“I just look for a school that is guard oriented and where I would fit in on and off the court,” said Washington.
