Pittsburgh was looking for depth in their 2013 class and landed a quality late pledge.

The Pittsburgh Panthers were crushed by departures this off season. Most notably the decision of Steven Adams to declare for the NBA Draft. With that there was a need for frontcourt help, and a little bit of that was solved on Friday night.

According to Fitchburg (Mass.) Notre Dame Prep coach Ryan Hurd, Jamel Artis committed to the Panthers.

Artis, who is a Baltimore native, picked Pittsburgh while on a visit. The Panthers had been after Artis for quite some time, and with the open scholarships decided to pull the trigger.

At 6-foot-7 Artis can play either inside or on the wing, and is a good athlete who is capable of snagging rebounds as well as blocking shots.

This is the third commitment for the Panthers joining four-star power forward Mike Young and three-star guard Josh Newkirk.
