San Antonio native Ben Lammers is beginning to emerge as a post player to watch in the class of 2014.

Athletic big guys who can dominate on the defensive side of the ball are always in demand at the college level. One such player who seems to be emerging in the 2014 class is San Antonio (Tex.) Alamo Heights center Ben Lammers.

According to Lammers’ AAU coach Clay Click, his center has made great strides and had a tremendous junior season.

“Ben doesn’t say a word. He just goes out there and plays,” said Click “He’s always been an exceptional talent. He is 6-foot-10 and he is among the nation’s leaders in shot blocks and rebounds and stuff like that. Defensively he can just control the game.”

Click continued about Lammers, “Ben is a face-up guy and a transition guy who is very fleet of foot who can make finesse moves around the rim. He just has so much versatility in his game and his best basketball is ahead of him.”

Recruiting wise it is still early for Lammers, but already interest is coming in from Big XII schools such as Baylor, Oklahoma State, and Kansas State. Also in the mix are schools such as Stanford and Texas A&M.

At this point Lammers is just taking everything in on the recruiting trail, and Click feels that his center is simply looking to get better.

According to Click thinks the work is being put in on the offensive end to make Lammers one of the best center prospects in the country.

“I worked with him one-on-one last summer on his shooting, and I think in this past year that has really developed,” said Click. “His ability to stretch the floor and be consistent knocking down the outside shot has been big for him. I think if he keeps developing that part of his game with everything else he brings to the table on defense, I think I would put him right up there with anybody in the country. His upside is there.”

With things just now heating up for Lammers on the recruiting trail, look for numerous coaches to make a long evaluation on him this spring.
