Vaughn takes in North Carolina
Rashad Vaughn took a key visit this past weekend. The junior guard out of New Hope (Minn.) Robbinsdale Cooper traveled to Chapel Hill for his first visit to North Carolina. Pete Kaffey, an assistant coach at Cooper, accompanied Vaughn on the visit to UNC. He said Vaughn left impressed with the campus, system and Roy Williams. "He'd already talked to Coach Williams before," Kaffey said. "He had obviously been to our school two times already. He liked the conversation. He likes Coach Williams and thinks he's a very genuine person. He just feels like the system would be nice. He liked his visit. He loved the campus and everything and he loved what Coach Williams had to say." So where does UNC stand following the visit? "They are high on his list last time I talked to him," Kaffey responded. Williams was going to travel to Minnesota on Tuesday to watch him in a playoff game, but instead is working on setting up an in-home visit. "I know that North Carolina is going to do a visit with the family," Kaffey said. "I don't know when. They were planning on coming tomorrow to watch the game. But Coach Williams asked Rashad what he thought would be more beneficial to come to watch him play a game or come to visit with his family." "Rashad thought visiting with his family would be more beneficial to the whole process than just coming and watching a game and saying 'hey' and 'bye.' I don't know when they are coming to visit but I know in the near future they are going to discuss that and that's part of the plan." At this point, Vaughn, a 2014 recruit, hasn't narrowed down a timeframe for a college choice. "He's focused on working hard and trying to make sure and prepare for the spring and summer," Kaffey said. "Decision wise I think he's going to sit down with his family but I don't know if he's going to make a commitment after North Carolina visits with his family. "But I know he's going to explore other options," he added. "I know he's talked about making a commitment during his senior year, but I know he's not planning on doing anything soon, according to the last time I talked to him." To go with UNC, Vaughn is also strongly considering Baylor, Kansas, Syracuse, Iowa State, Maryland, Kentucky, Louisville, Minnesota and Florida.
