2016 Intro: Tyus Battle

Tyus Battle

Arguably the best performance of the entire Cancer Research Classic came from a freshman. No surprise that Tyus Battle already has significant college attention.

Maybe the most impressive performer at the recent Cancer Research Classic was class of 2016 wing Tyus Battle. The Gladstone (NJ) Gil St. Bernard's star put on one of the most efficient displays of basketball at the entire event and led multiple college coaches to say the freshman in high school could start for them right now.

At around 6-foot-5 with a quick first step, Battle is tough to guard and has made an impact from day one at the high school level. Battle first emerged playing up on the AAU circuit for Team Final, and he has only gotten better and more consistent with his play.

"It is a good chance to see what it is like," said Battle. "This is all a learning experience for me. I also have a lot of help, so it has just been real good."

Battle has grown noticeably since July when he first was seen on the circuit, and he says the doctors think that he will get even taller.

"They can't predict my height because I am off the chart but I am just blessed to be this tall with my mom and dad being average height," Battle said.

As would be no surprise, several schools have already stepped up and offered Battle a scholarship.

"I have seven scholarship offers, Syracuse, Rhode Island, Rutgers, Seton Hall, Miami, SMU, and Vanderbilt," said Battle.

So far Battle says the recruiting experience has been a great one.

"It is a great experience," said Battle. "Getting a chance to see the coaches seeing me play is just great. It is just crazy. It has all happened so fast and I am just getting used to it."

For now Battle isn't letting any recruiting attention get to his head, and he knows he must get better in order to remain one of the top players in his class.

"I know I have to work on everything, but mainly I am working on my ball handling and off the ball defense," said Battle. "Also I want to be a better leader on the court."
