Lee pledges to Kentucky

Marcus Lee

Marcus Lee announced his college decision on Wednesday at a press conference at his high school. The talented center picked Kentucky over California.

It's getting too easy for John Calipari and Kentucky.

On Wednesday, Kentucky picked up yet another verbal commitment. This time the Wildcats worked their West Coast connections and gained a pledge from Antioch (Calif.) Deer Valley standout Marcus Lee.

"For the next four years I'll be attending the University of Kentucky," Lee said at his press conference.

Lee, Scout.com's No. 38 prospect, had high major interest from a host of schools, but he recently narrowed his list of contenders to Kentucky and California, which is located just 35 miles from Lee's high school.

Lee gives Kentucky a quality big man that can impact the game defensively and on the glass. At 6-foot-9, Lee is a tremendous athlete that runs the floor well, will contest shots and rebounds his area.

During his junior season, Lee averaged 13.9 points, 13.9 rebounds and 9.1 blocks per game.

Adding a commitment from Lee is particularly significant for Kentucky's long-term plans with their 2013 recruiting class.

LEE HIGHLIGHT REEL

Since the spring the Cats have targeted a handful of elite prospects and now in a three-week span they have secured commitments from three top 10 recruits -- Andrew Harrison, Aaron Harrison and James Young -– plus Lee.

Now the Wildcats can focus their recruiting efforts on elite recruits Julius Randle, Aaron Gordon and -- if he reclassifies from 2014 to 2013 -- Andrew Wiggins.

Adding any one of those three prospects would likely classify UK's 2013 class as the best recruiting class of all time. In both 2010 and 2012 Kentucky picked up three top 10 recruits.

Since Scout.com's existence no school has picked up four top 10 recruits in one class.

Randle is currently listing six schools –- Kentucky, Texas, Florida, North Carolina State, Oklahoma and Kansas. Gordon has a list of Kentucky, Washington, Arizona, Kansas and Oregon. Wiggins is hearing from Kentucky, Florida State and UNC.
