Lee announcement primer

Marcus Lee

Marcus Lee is ready to announce his college decision. Scout.com's No. 38 prospect in the 2013 class will pick between Kentucky and California Wednesday afternoon at his school -- Antioch (Calif.) Deer Valley.

Kentucky

Kentucky entered the Marcus Lee recruitment a tad late, but that doesn't matter. They offered during their in-home visit in September and since have been a major player for Lee. Lee is a good fit for what Kentucky does with their big men, as he's mobile and a very fluid athlete. The Wildcats are looking to add their second post prospect of the 2013 class and Lee would be a big addition, as it would solidify another quality post player and give them the opportunity to swing for the fences with Julius Randle and Aaron Gordon.

Key Dates
-September 16th – In-Home Visit
-October 12th – Official Visit

Quotables
"I think it's mainly their playing style and success that they've had recently. It's great that they're coming off a championship and they way they've developed a guy like Anthony Davis, who is long and athletic and likes to run the floor and block shots like Marcus does, is really appealing to him. Their style of play really fits him well." – Bryan Lee, Marcus Lee's brother, to Scout.com's Jeff Drummond

California

California's advantage in this recruitment is clear. The Bears are the hometown school and I'm sure that's the pitch they've been using with Lee. He's under 35 miles away from California's campus and could play in front of family and friends. On top of that the Bears have been involved in his recruitment as long as anyone. With Jabari Bird committed to Cal, picking up a commitment from Lee would be significant and gives the Bears a high level 2013 recruiting class.

Key Dates
-September 1st – Unofficial Visit
-September 30th – In-Home visit

Quotables
"Obviously, he can be at home. There's a comfort level there. It's a great situation with family support. He has two really good options right now, and it's going to be a difficult decision. He's been going back and forth on it. We just want him to be happy and be able to pursue his dream." – Bryan Lee

Prediction

The timing of Lee's announcement isn't a surprise. With his proximity to California, he knows all he needs to know about the opportunity and situation at Cal. With Kentucky, he needed to get to their campus before he could make a decision on whether he wanted to stay close to home or head to the Bluegrass. He took that official this past weekend and by all accounts the trip went extremely well. Lee was scheduled to visit California again this weekend, but has since canceled that trip. California had two assistant coaches at his workout on Monday. All that said, in the end Kentucky wins out in this one. The Wildcats have been virtually unbeatable on the recruiting trail as of late and they are primed to add another impressive recruit.
