Moore picks the Ponies

SMU got on the board yet again with the commitment of three-star prospect Ben Moore.

Larry Brown and Jerrance Howard combined to pull in one commitment from the state of Illinois earlier this week with four-star Sterling Brown, and they doubled up on Tuesday evening with Ben Moore. The Bolingbrook (Ill.) High School star pulled the trigger and committed according to head coach Rob Brost.

Moore's stock has really exploded lately with offers coming in from schools such as Illinois and Missouri to go along with SMU, but at the end of the day the relationship that Brown and his staff built proved to be the difference.

"I think Coach Brown recognized from the very first time his talent and ability level," said Brost. "From that second on he was full speed ahead. That was important to Ben. Also the rapport with Coach Brown and the staff built with Ben and his family."

The visit to Illinois made things tough, but Brost said the long term relationship was too much to overcome.

"I think distance is always a factor," said Brost of the decision. "Illinois was pulling on the heart strings, but Coach Brown recruiting him right from the get go and the relationship he had with the staff over the last four months was really, really good."

For now Moore continues to improve his game, and Brost thinks his athleticism and perimeter skills will make him very difficult to handle at the college level.

"As a player his ability to put the ball on the floor at his size, he's every bit of 6-foot-8, is rare," said Brost. "He can really put it on the floor and he has a great basketball IQ. Obviously he can score, rebound, and block shots as well, but his ability to play on the perimeter on the next level started to turn some heads."

This is the second commitment for SMU.
