Lawrence has big weekend adds offers
Right now Jermaine Lawrence of Sparta (NJ) Pope John XXIII is rated as a three-star prospect, but that won't last long. The 6-foot-8 forward with major athleticism and versatility is going to soar in the rankings due to his showing at the Hoop Group Pittsburgh Jam Fest as well as the Hoop Group Philadelphia Jam Fest. Now he is adding big offers and landing on more college radars. Running with the New Rens AAU program, Lawrence has shined. He is one of the most versatile and athletic power forwards in the 2013 class and flashed major potential all April long. "It has been good so far," said Lawrence of his spring. "We lost a little early in the first tournament, but we picked it up. I have been shooting well and I am just trying to keep it going." He continued, "I am just showing my versatility and that I can play most of the positions on the court." Coming into the April evaluation period schools like Miami, Cincinnati, Pittsburgh, Syracuse, and Rutgers were after him the hardest. Now according to mentor Alexis Hargrove Kansas and Florida have both offered with Baylor showing major interest. For Lawrence he is just now beginning to develop solid relationships with coaches. When it comes to Syracuse, he feels his game would suit what they do on the court very well. "It is a place with a great history of forwards," said Lawrence of Syracuse. "I like how they use their forwards. I would get playing time and I think they fit my style well." In terms of Rutgers, it is a place that he is becoming more familiar with while developing a strong relationship with their coaching staff. "They are a good program and close to home, and I think they have been at all of my games this spring," he explained. For now Lawrence is taking everything in and growing as a player while starting to focus on his recruitment. When the time does come down the road for him to choose a college, he knows what he will be looking for in a school. "I pay attention to how a school uses their forwards and if they get out in transition," said Lawrence. "I am at my best in transition, so I like to get out and run."
