Kendall Smith, 6-0 JR PG Antioch (Calif.) Deer Valley, is a very solid prospect with a nice upside. He makes good decisions with the ball, does a nice job of running a team and has the ability to get his own shot. He’s among the better point guards in the west for 2013.
I spoke with Smith recently and asked about the schools he has been hearing from to date.
“I’ve been hearing from UConn, several Pac-12 schools, Arizona State, Arizona, Cal, Washington, USC, UCLA, USC,” said Smith. “Boise State, UC Santa Barbara, San Diego State and UNLV are some of the others.”
Smith said he thought UCSB and Boise State were close to offering. He has yet to take any unofficial visits, but plans on taking a visit after the Spring Classic in Las Vegas.
“I’m visiting UNLV on Sunday,” said Smith.
When asked if any schools stand out for him, Smith said “Cal, UConn and ASU – I like them.”
I asked Smith what he is looking for in a school.
“A good environment, good coaching staff and up tempo system,” said Smith. “The location isn’t really a factor.”
I asked Smith if he has a time frame in mind for choosing a school.
“Marcus Lee and I have been talking about announcing on the same day,” said Smith. “It will probably be sometime after the summer.”
Smith said he has a 3.0 GPA.
