Cousins seeing stock soar
It has been a heck of a senior season for Mount Vernon (NY) High School standout Isaiah Cousins. After a relatively quiet summer on the AAU circuit, Cousins has seen his stock soar and now he is one of the members of the 2012 class getting the most attention heading into the late signing period. "It was a good year," said Cousins of his senior season. "I think I played pretty well." Cousins had some interest in the early signing period, but he felt his play as a senior would give him more opportunities, and that is why he decided to wait. "It has been great, but it is something I expected," Cousins explained of his senior season. "I knew I would play well and explode, it has been fun." Right now four schools seem to be emerging with Cousins. According to Cousins, Connecticut, Dayton, Oklahoma, and Xavier are showing him the most attention at the moment. Recently Connecticut came forward with an offer after being evaluated by Kevin Ollie. Cousins says he has great respect for the Huskies program. "I think their program has a great history with their guards and I could fit in well there," Cousins said of Connecticut. The Dayton Flyers have been very active in recruiting Cousins as well. "Dayton, I have a good relationship with them I have been talking to coach (Allen) Griffin a lot," said Cousins. Oklahoma assistant Lew Hill is a native of Mount Vernon, and is making Cousins a priority. "I like Coach Hill a lot, he is a Mount Vernon guy and Oklahoma is a good program that is up and coming," said Cousins of the Sooners. Also recently Cousins got a visit from Xavier head coach Chris Mack, and the Musketeers came forward with an offer. Of Xavier, he said, "They have a good program as well and they let their guards play which I like." At the moment Cousins has no plans to make any visits, but he would like to check the schools out before he comes to a decision. When it does come time for him to make his choice, Cousins knows what he will be looking for in a school. "I am looking for a school where I can just play," he explained. "I don't want to go in and sit the bench or anything like that."
