Winslow in midst of visit spree
Justise Winslow is just a sophomore, but the 6-foot-6 Houston (Tex.) St. John's standout has jumped right into the recruiting process. With early interest from a host of high major schools, Winslow began planning unofficial visits to the schools involved. Winslow spent this past weekend in Chapel Hill to check out the Tar Heels. "I really enjoyed it," Winslow told Scout.com. "Just the whole atmosphere about it, I really liked it." Winslow said he toured Carolina's campus, met with academic advisors, watched UNC against Virginia and spent time with North Carolina's head coach Roy Williams. "It was good just talking to him and seeing what he's like on a personal level and kind of away from basketball," Winslow said of his conversation with Williams. "He talked to me about how he's not the kind of coach to offer players at a young age so he said he's going to wait and see how I develop," he added. "He said they might be one of the last schools to offer me, but he's going to recruit me hard." Just a day after returning from UNC, Winslow, Scout.com's No. 15 prospect, went to Texas for its game against Baylor. "I didn't get to tour the campus, like I did at North Carolina," he said. "I got to go in and watch shoot-a-around. I got to spend a lot time with the coaching staff and coach Barnes before the game." "Then I got a chance to watch the game and just see coach Barnes' pregame speech before the game and I got to see him after the game after a tough loss," he added. Winslow said the UNC and Texas visits were completely different. "It's different from North Carolina," the talented sophomore explained. "It has its positives and negatives against Carolina, but it's just a completely different school." But the visits don't stop there. Winslow will head to Texas A&M on Wednesday. Then he'll fly to Arizona early Thursday to spend a day in Tucson (Ariz.). "They've been down numerous times to see me workout and see me play," Winslow said about the Wildcats. "Coach [Sean Miller] is really excited for me to get down there for my visit Thursday." Then Winslow is planning to see Baylor on Saturday and Kansas the following weekend when they match up with Texas. "Every school is in the mix so far," Winslow said. Baylor and Kansas have been recruiting me hard. Florida and really every school has been coming at me hard. Its just some teams have scheduled visits with me before other schools could get a chance." "I'm not favoring any schools, those schools just scheduled visits first," Winslow explained.
