2014 Intro: Jordan McLaughlin

Jordan McLaughlin

During the course of the season, Etiwanda (Calif.)'s Jordan McLaughlin has emerged as one of the best 2014 point guard prospects out west. Here's an intro to his game and recruitment.

Not many 2014 prospects in Southern California have improved their stock this season like 5-foot-11, 160-pound Etiwanda (Calif.) point guard Jordan McLaughlin.

Here's a recent evaluation of McLaughlin in action:

2014 is shaping up to be a loaded point guard class in the west and McLaughlin is near the top of the list. McLaughlin has very good quickness, can get to the basket, plays hard and has a good looking jumper.

He does a good job using his speed to create for his teammates and gives good effort on the defensive end. He'll need to get stronger in time but was very impressive in two viewings.

Thus far, McLaughlin has heard from UCLA, USC and San Francisco, and he's either seen or tried to see all of those campuses.

"San Francisco wanted me to come by this summer but I couldn't make it," McLaughlin said. "I've been to USC to see the campus and I went to the UCLA camp and I've seen some of that campus. UCLA and USC have come by and seen me play recently."

McLaughlin has led Etiwanda to an 18-1 record, proving his squad as one of the best teams in state.

"We're doing very well," he said. "People don't think that we'll go very far but we believe we are. We're working hard in practice and it's showing on the court."

As a player, McLaughlin is happy with how far he's come and knows what he'd like to get better at as well.

"I've been distributing the ball well, shooting it, making plays, getting in a defensive stance and playing better defense," McLaughlin said. "I'm working on my off hand and defense; you can always improve on defense."
