Kasey Hill has been close to giving Billy Donovan a verbal commitment for quite some time.
On Saturday, the five-star guard prospect opted to get it over with, committing to Florida over strong interest from Kentucky, Louisville and a host of other high major programs.
"Yes I did," he said of the commitment.
“I think Kasey has watched the Gators play for a long time and there up-tempo style in which they play totally suits his game,” Matt Ramker, who runs the Florida Rams, said. “He wants to get it and go. He’s probably the fastest guard in the country.”
Billy Donovan and assistant Matt McCall have worked Hill, a 6-foot-1, 175-pound guard, for quite some time and were recently watching him at the City of Palms Classic in Fort Myers.
“It came down to the fact that coach Billy Donovan made Kasey a priority,” Ramker said. “It was clear that he was the most important guy that he was recruiting in any class. The fact that Florida is an elite program and that his family can drive to every game, there was no reason to go out of state when Florida was right here.”
As a sophomore Hill, the No. 2 lead guard in the 2013 class, Hill averaged 21 points and sevens assists.
“The kid has won at every level since he was 8 yr old,” Ramker said. “He’s won AAU national championships and he’s won with his high school programs. He doesn't care about his stats, the kid just wins.”
Hill is Florida's first commitment in the 2013 class. He ranks No. 13 overall in his class.
