University of Dayton Head Coach Archie Miller knew he needed a point guard in the 2012 class, and now he has one in Jevon Thomas. The former St. John's commitment is now headed to play at Dayton.
According to AAU Coach Casey Williams, Dayton provided the perfect fit for Thomas.
"Allen Griffin did a great job of recruiting Jevon, and it seemed like a good fit for Jevon," said Williams.
Thomas also confirmed the news with Scout.com.
“Just the commitment that they had,” Thomas said when asked about Arizona. “They were committed. They kept coming down there. Every time I called them they’d pick up.”
Seton Hall was the only other school on Thomas’ list. Among the reasons he opted for Dayton was Miller’s background as a lead guard.
“Archie was a point guard and people tell me he was a great shooter,” he said. “He gives me point of views on my jump shot and helps me with my confidence. Allen [Griffin] played at Syracuse and I’ve just taken points from both of them.”
“The staff there and coach miller are going top lay four out and one in is similar to my game,” he added. “In the month of September they’ve been up here 3 or times. They wanted me.”
One of the things that helped Dayton is the conference's ties to the East Coast. Williams said that gave Thomas the feeling of being away from home, but also having the opportunity to play close to friends and family.
"He wanted to get away, but in the conference with Philadelphia teams and New York teams it gave him a chance to come back home," said Williams.
By committing Thomas is now the second commitment for the Flyers in the 2012 class. He joins Ohio native Jalen Robinson who pledged his services to Dayton during the month of June.
