UTEP added a third 2012 commitment on Tuesday.
This time around it is the Miners best get of them all. Just a few days after taking an official visit to UTEP, Twymond Howard opted to give them a verbal pledge.
Pearl (Miss.) High coach Russell Evans confirmed the news to Scout.com.
“He had a great visit this weekend,” Evans said. “I accompanied him on his visit. He enjoyed the atmosphere and the family atmosphere and the coaching staff. They were sincere and he was their top priority.”
“They showed him he was their top guy,” Evans added. “He liked the players and they got along well on the visit. He was liking everything about the situation and the way they play and the style they play.”
Just last weekend Arkansas had their full staff at Pearl to watch him work out. Mississippi, Southern Miss and Murray State were also involved in Howard’s recruitment.
According to Russell, UTEP’s in-home visit was instrumental in his final decision.
“They were the first one to get an in-home visit with his mom,” he said. “He was just real comfortable the whole situation at the UTEP.”
Howard, who ranks No. 90 overall in the 2012 class, joins 6-foot-7 wing Anthony January and Louisiana native Dwayne Benjamin to make up their current class.
Howard averaged 23 points and 12 rebounds a game as a junior.
