Coming into the weekend it was obviously a huge weekend for Oklahoma State. The Cowboys were hosting one of the top shooters in the country in Phil Forte and one of the top overall players in Marcus Smart.
Now both of those players can be changed from recruits to commitments. On the first day of their official visit the two Flower Mound (TX) Marcus stars decided to pull the trigger and commit to the school.
"I just felt me and Phil started this ride together in third grade and we decided it was right to finish it together at Oklahoma State," said Smart.
Smart is a 6-foot-4 and 200 pound wing who can play a multitude of positions. He is ranked as the No. 14 player in the class and the No. 4 shooting guard. Along with Oklahoma State, Smart entertained offers from Texas, North Carolina, Oklahoma, and many others, but in the end the Cowboys won out on the visit.
Coming into the visit Smart wasn't sure that he would pull the trigger and commit, but once on campus he says he knew it was the right spot.
"I didn’t come in ready to decide, it was just something that I just felt when I stepped on to the campus and saw the atmosphere," said Smart.
Forte, who committed with Smart, is one of the premier shooters in the class. The rumor has been that he has long favored the Cowboys, and both he and smart are close friends. It was Forte’s long range shooting that really led Texas Assault to the title at the Adidas Super 64 in July.
For Smart, finding the right fit for not only himself, but Forte played a huge rule in the decision of the two of them to pick the Cowboys.
"I fit in real good with their system, and Phil isn't the tallest but they have proven with Keiton Page that it isn't an issue," said Smart. "We decided it was the right place for our future."
By landing Forte and Smart, Oklahoma State now has four commitments in the class. Already pledged were power forward Kamari Murphy and guard Adam Wing. This is a class that should rate fairly highly in the nation given the star power that Smart provides.
