Junior small forward Eric Vierneisel’s timetable for a decision appears to have sped up.
“Originally I thought I could play this summer and then kind of make a decision after that stuff,” Vierneisel said. “But, I don’t really know right now. I know I want to take another visit somewhere to compare it to Cal. If I take a visit, I might find out Cal is the right place or I’ll have to visit other places. I’ll make my decision toward the end of summer.”
Vierneisel, an integral part of the Illinois Warriors, visited California last month and has Wisconsin up very high on his list; both schools have offered. He likes Notre Dame but the Irish have not placed an offer on the table.
The Badgers made an effort to get him to campus but couldn’t work it out. “We actually tried to get up there for a weekend but our schedules didn’t work out. I’ll probably go out there unofficially again. They wanted me to see a class but their classes get out before I can get out there.”
Meanwhile, the Cal visit went as expect. “It went about as good as it could. I really liked it.”
Like a lot of players, Vierneisel is surprised by how fast the actual recruiting process has been accelerated. “My high school coach was saying that his last Division I player didn’t start doing this stuff until after his junior year and didn’t get looked at until after his senior year.”
