James Robinson is off the board and headed to Pittsburgh.
A talented lead guard from Hyattsville (Md.) DeMatha, picked the Panthers over strong interest from Notre Dame, Virginia and others.
"He has committed verbally to Pittsburgh," James Robinson Sr. told Scout.com.
"It's official," DeMatha coach Mike Jones told Scout.com. "James Robinson has committed to Pittsburgh.
According to Robinson, he felt comfortable at Pittsburgh and he started getting that feeling while playing in the Pitt Jam Fest earlier in the year.
“I just felt like that was going to be the best fit for me,” Robinson said. “It was not an overnight choice. I originally went up to Pittsburgh on a AAU visit. I really just enjoyed the campus and thought I could get used to it.”
Robinson took an unofficial visit to Pittsburgh on Sunday. On the way home he thought more and more about making his college decision.
“Yesterday when I took the visit unofficially, me and my parents just really talked about it,” he said. “Just listening to coach [Jamie] Dixon and how he runs his program I just wanted to be a part of it. Pitt is a top 10 public university and that speaks for itself.”
Robinson, a 6-foot-3, 195-pound guard, has won a lot of games at DeMatha and for Team Takeover on the travel circuit. Mike Jones described his lead guard as a winner.
“I think first and foremost if you’re talking about James, he’s a winner,” he said. “He’s going to bring that attitude to Pittsburgh. No matter what he wants to win. He’s going to sacrifice and he wants to win.”
Robinson, a four-star prospect, is ranked No. 17 at the point guard spot and No. 94 overall in the 2012 class.
Pittsburgh now has a pair of 2012 recruits. Robinson joins five-star center Steven Adams to make up their current 2012 class.
