Horns hook Felix
The Texas Longhorns are continuing to add very solid guards to their program. The latest player to pledge his services to the Longhorns is New Orleans native Javan Felix who was outstanding during the month of July. "He did it an hour ago, he committed to Texas," said New Orleans Elite AAU Coach Greg Holmes. "Javan will be a Texas Longhorn." The Longhorns had been in the mix with Felix for some time according to Holmes. Holmes, who also coached former Longhorn D.J. Augustin, says that Texas was always a favorite for Felix. "Javan has always liked Texas from the first time I brought him down there as like an eighth and ninth grader," Holmes explained. "Texas backed off a little bit thinking they would still have Cory Joseph around, but once he left that opened Texas back up for Javan once Coach (Rick) Barnes had a chance to watch him." Holmes continued, "I think they feel that there is a chance that Myck Kabongo could be a one and done, and with that they knew they wanted another point guard, and that really interested Javan." Even though it is possible that Kabongo's time on the Austin campus could be short, Holmes says it also isn't a problem if Kabongo stays. "I think what sealed the deal is that even if Myck comes back, Coach Barnes has prove with D.J. (Augustin) and A.J. Abrams that he will play two point guards together in the same backcourt," Holmes explained. Ultimately Felix chose Texas over Oregon, Virginia, Baylor, and LSU. Felix who is currently a three-star prospect is in line for a bump to four-star status after his very impressive showing during the month of July.
