The Northwestern Wildcats nabbed another class of 2012 commitment on Friday when Minnesota native Sanjay Lumpkin pledged to the school. Landing Lumpkin was big for Northwestern.
“Sanjay committed to Northwestern,” said Minnesota Pump ‘N Run coach Tom Kroschell. “I think the combination of academics and being able to play in the Big Ten was very appealing to him.”
The decision to attend Northwestern came over offers from Richmond, Indiana State, Princeton, Holy Cross, Santa Clara, and numerous other schools.
At 6-foot-6 and 185 pounds with long arms and nice athleticism, the ability to play multiple positions is what attracted Northwestern to him. Kroschell feels he will bring a lot to the floor for the Wildcats.
“He is very long and very athletic and a good defender,” said Kroschell. “He can shoot the three as well as get to the basket. He is a very smart player, he has a real complete game. Versatility is one of his strong suits.”
The commitment of Lumpkin is the second for the Wildcats in the 2012 class. He joins big man Alex Olah in the 2012 haul.
