Coming off a top three recruiting class, Steve Lavin and St. John's are at it again in 2012.
On the second to last day of the second July evaluation period, Ricardo Gathers gave St. John's a verbal commitment.
"St. John's was the perfect school," Gathers told Scout.com. "Everything with the team and the school fit what I was looking for."
"I have thought about it for a while and looked into the situation with them," he added. "I followed them closely and just listened to the coaches and when I visited there I really like what I saw in the school and New York City."
One of the more unique, but impressive prospects in the 2012 class, Gathers stands just 6-foot-6, maybe 6-7, and is a strong physical specimen that gets things done in the paint and on the glass.
Over the course of the last 18 months he's also added a mid-range jump shot and a face up game. Gathers had plenty of high major interest, especially from the top schools in his area.
"I see myself fitting in well," he said. "I will provide the physical presence that they need for the Big East. I plan on giving them a hard worker on the floor."
Gathers, a standout at Reserve (La.) Christian, is ranked No. 32 overall and is regarded as a four-star prospect on Scout.com.
