Ware staying local

Gavin Ware

The Mississippi State Bulldogs landed a key piece to what is shaping up to be an impressive in-state recruiting class.

Throughout the recruiting process most felt that Starkville (MS) High School product Gavin Ware would be tough to pull out of his home city school. The Mississippi State Bulldogs had been after Ware for a long time, and the hard work officially paid off.

Ware made the decision to attend Mississippi State official during a press conference at his school.

Ware said, "The reason why I chose the school is because it gives me endless possibilities. It is close to home and it gives me so many opportunities to become successful."

Ware chose Mississippi State over offers from Georgetown and Alabama, and then also interest was coming in from Georgia, LSU, Tennessee, and Oklahoma. In the end though, the lure of staying close to home proved to be too much, and Mississippi State won out.

At 6-foot-8 and 240 pounds, Ware currently is the No. 19 ranked center in the country and the No. 86 ranked player overall.

Ware is an old school center who prefers to play with his back to the basket, and does most of his damage on the interior. His skills to the mid-range have greatly improved in the last year, and held his own at the recent NBA Players Association Top 100 Camp.

By pulling the trigger Ware becomes the third commitment for Mississippi State in the class. He joins shooting guards Fred Thomas and Craig Sword. Now look for the Bulldogs to make a strong run at Devonta Pollard. Pollard, who is on the verge of five-star status, is very close friends with Ware, and also is his AAU teammate.
