This weekend is a slow one on the AAU circuit. Only two major events are going on, and both are taking place in the Midwest.

King James Shooting Stars Classic

This used to be the biggest event and one of the most difficult to cover with all of the high quality teams playing seemingly all over Northeast Ohio. Since April got closed down the event has shrunk and become more regional, but still there are quality teams.

Leading the way at the event will be CIA Bounce out of Canada. Bounce might have the services of top 2014 prospect Andrew Wiggins, and definitely will have highly recruited players Anthony Bennett, Sim Bhullar, and Negus Webster-Chan. Already Bounce has been one of the best teams this spring.

Also making appearance will be the Southern Kings. The Southern Kings have Virginia pledge Evan Nolte as well as wing Jarmal Reid at the 17 and under level, and the very intriguing Brannen Greene who is a 2013 prospect that is playing up and making an impact.

One of the more interesting matchups at the event will pit All-Ohio Red versus the Ohio Basketball Club. The two rival programs don’t often meet on the circuit since one plays on the Adidas side and the other on the Nike side, and there will be a lot of intensity on the floor.

Also looking to have a strong showing will be DC Assault. Assault should have the services of Torian Graham who is one of the most talented players in the country, and also 2013 point guard Nate Britt knows how to make plays for himself and others.

At the younger level, the CP3 is a team to watch. They feature four-star wing Greg McClinton who is one of the better scorers in the class as well as big man Tyrek Coger.

Recruiting Analyst Brian Snow will have full coverage from Akron all weekend.

Nike Spring Showdown

Merrillville, Indiana will be the host to a tournament featuring some quality teams from the Chicago area as well as the state of Indiana.

At the 17 and under level Indiana Elite and the Mac Irvin Fire headline the event. Mac Irvin features 2013 prospects Tommy Hamilton and Russell Woods along with fast rising 2012 power forward Steve Taylor. All spring long the Fire have been playing very well.

Indiana Elite will have the services of Kevin Ferrell, Hanner Perea, and Ron Patterson. Indiana commitments Jeremy Hollowell and Peter Jurkin are not expected to play this weekend due to injury.

Also the Illinois Wolves and Purdue commitment Jay Simpson will be in action. Simpson is recovering from a slow start to his high school season, and has been on top of his game so far this spring.

The 16 and under level is where the depth of the class in Illinois will really show at this event. Meanstreets is one of the best teams at the level with guards Jaylon Tate, Alvin Ellis, and Kendrick Nunn. Also they feature Alex Foster in the frontcourt.

The Wolves will have Purdue pledge Kendall Stephens leading the way, and Stephens is one of the fastest rising wings in the country.

The Mac Irvin Fire are also loaded at the age group. The Fire have combo guard Kyle Davis and DePaul pledge Billy Garrett as well as the developing Sterling Brown to complete a heck of a perimeter trio.

In the 2014 class the player to watch is Drake Harris. The Michigan native plays with Meanstreets and is already pulling in high-major offers.
