For Gathers people have had their doubts. He isn't the tallest power forward and isn't the most skilled. Some have felt his production would slow down once the other kids his age caught up to him strength wise, but still Gathers dominates and doesn't worry about what others think.
"At the end of the day I don't worry about what people think," said Gathers. "I am just going to go out there and play my best every minute."
Though Gathers is still at his best down low on the block and in transition, he is beginning to show more of a mid-range game, and sometimes he can extend it out to the three point line. He says that comes from hard work and reps in the gym.
"I am in the gym every night from 8 to 11 o'clock working on my mid-range game, one-on-one moves, and stuff like that," Gathers explained.
When it comes to recruiting there are a lot of schools showing him attention. At the moment his list isn't narrowed down and it is full of heavy hitters.
In terms of the process. Gathers is still evaluating all of the schools on his list and all of his options, but he could be narrowing things down here soon.
"Definitely by the end of the summer I am going to narrow down my list," explained Gathers.
For now Gathers says that his recruitment is completely open and that if and when new schools begin to get involved he will consider them before making a decision which schools to chop off of his list, and ultimately where he wants to attend college.
Gathers is the No. 29 player in the country.
