Todd Mayo was one of the big storylines at the National Prep Showcase this past weekend. The talented guard said his brother has helped him along the way.

Todd Mayo has an advantage over most high school prospects.

See Mayo, a 6-foot-3, 180-pound shooting guard, is the brother of former Scout.com No. 1 prospect and current Memphis Grizzlie O.J. Mayo. The two are close and the older Mayo has had his handprint on his brothers improvement.

“Every summer we work out,” the younger Mayo told Scout.com shortly after scoring nearly 30 points at the National Prep Showcase this past weekend. “He really does help me.”

Mayo said his older brother has taught him a variety of things from how to use his body to using screens the appropriate way.

“He’s helped me a lot,” he said. “One he’s my motivation and two he shows me how to come off screens, how to create, how to find the open man and if the open man isn’t open body my man and go to the rim.”

This past year Mayo transferred to Fitchburg (Mass.) Notre Dame Prep to do a post-graduate year. He said the move has helped him more than he would have imagined.

“It really has because my freshman year I didn’t play,” Mayo said. “This is kind of like my fourth year. It’s really helped me. I’m learning and getting the hang of it. Prep school, I wish I would have come here last year.”

While the younger Mayo’s recruitment hasn’t been quite as public as his older brothers was, he still has a solid list of schools trailing him.

“It’s going pretty good,” Mayo said. “I have Baylor, Tennessee, Memphis, Southern Mississippi. There are a bunch of other schools Missouri, Louisville, West Virginia.”

He currently claims scholarship offers from Baylor, Missouri and UNLV. The next step for Mayo is to begin taking visits.

“I’m going to take some during our Christmas break,” he said. “I’m going to Baylor on December 15th. When I go back home I’m going to go to Memphis and see a game and try to visit Oklahoma State over the break too.”

Mayo does not have a timetable for a college choice.
