Amir Garrett is off the board and headed across the country to play for Steve Lavin and St. John's.

Amir Garrett just couldn't wait it out.

The top 100 prospect had it down to St. John's and Oregon, and was planning to wait until the spring to make his college choice. Turns out, he just wanted to get it over with.

"I couldn't wait until the spring," Garrett told "I just wanted to get this off my chest so i could just worry about basketball."

"I just wanted to get it out of the way," he added. "I'm going to sign my letter of intent tomorrow."

So what stuck out about the Red Storm? In the end it came down to their fantastic recruiting class, which ranks No. 3 overall, and the amount of talent headed their way.

"They are trying to win," Garrett said. "I want to be at a winning school and they are turning the program around and they are getting all these other players. They are going to win games next year."

Garrett, a four-star prospect, also cited his relationship with Steve Lavin, as one of his deciding factors.

"My relationship with the whole staff is amazing," Garrett said. "I'm closer with them than any of the other schools recruiting me."

St. John's now has eight commitments in their 2011 recruiting class. Garrett joins Jakarr Sampson, Norvel Pelle, Sir'Dominic Pointer, D'Angelo Harrison, Maurice Harkless, Dwight Meikle and Nurideen Lindsey to make up their 2011 group.

Garrett is the sixth top 100 recruit headed to St. John's next year. He is ranked No. 62 overall.
